After you have submitted your application, phone 276-646-2222 option1 for an appointment to meet her at Smyth County Animal Shelter Tuesday - Saturday 1pm-5:30pm. Phone or e-mail to make an appointment. Closed Sunday and Monday. .

We prefer payments by debit or credit card but can take cash.

    Dog Adoption Fee is subsidized and now includes:
  • Vaccinations for Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella to protect against the most common and often deadly diseases
  • Spay/Neuter Surgery prevents overpopulation
  • Microchip allows a Vet or Animal Control to notify you if the dog is found
  • Optional 4DX Testing for common tick bourne diseases and heartworm: $30 additional fee

  • All our animals for adoption are spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter so can be adopted anywhere nationwide.
  • To adopt a dog you must be 18 years of age or older.
  • You must provide a picture ID with a current address at the time of the adoption.
  • State law requires that all dogs and cats have a current vaccination for rabies if it is four months of age or older. .
  • Out of state adoptions must be spayed or neutered before leaving Virginia.
