The Smyth County Public Animal Shelter located at 287 Fox Valley Rd at the Seven Mile Ford exit is now being operated by Smyth Animal Rescue. Our staff along with the shelter attendants will continue working hand-in-hand with the Animal Control Officers but you will begin seeing a few changes. Our priorities are to serve lost animals, especially those that are sick or injured; provide assistance when owners need to rehome their pets; provide education and resources to keep animals with their owners; and allocate space for animals awaiting court dates. Continue to follow Smyth Animal Rescue and Smyth Shelter Friends Facebook pages for more details about exciting changes.

And many thanks to everyone who works hard to advocate for the animals- Cost of adopting a dog is $95. Fee includes vaccinations, spay/neuter and microchip. Cash only and we are not able to make change so please bring the correct amount.
- Stray dogs without identication are held for 5 days before being put up for adoption. Dogs with collars or identication are held for 10 days before being put up for adoption. We would like a dog to go to a new home or rescue as soon as possible after its "available" date.
- We operate on a first come, first served basis to qualified adopters which means WE DO NOT HOLD ANIMALS so you cannot reserve a dog over the phone or via e-mail.
